How to Gift-Wrap a Mug: The Ultimate Guide
Mugs Make Great Gifts, But They Can Be Tough To Wrap
When you want to give a great gift but have a limited budget, a great mug is the perfect option. Mugs are useful, fun to collect, and, best of all, universal – everyone needs a good mug! Whether it’s for sipping hot coffee, tea, cocoa, or something else, a trusty mug is something everyone can use.
Giving great gifts is just as much about presentation as it is about the present itself. The way you give a gift can be just as meaningful as what you give – sometimes even more. That’s why it’s always worthwhile to go the extra mile and wrap the gifts you give. But wrapping presents can be tough, especially when you are giving an oddly-shaped object to someone. Mugs, with their handles and the empty space inside them, can often be particularly tough to wrap well. Fortunately, we’re here to help!
If you’ve long been struggling to successfully wrap a mug, this handy guide is exactly what you have been looking for. In this post, we’ll walk through the steps you can take to get a perfectly-wrapped mug. Even if you have never been the best at wrapping presents, we guarantee you can do it with some practice!
Let’s get started!
First – What Kind Of Mug Should You Give?
A mug is a reliable, crowd-pleasing present that is sure to mean something to just about anyone. But where do you start when picking out a mug to give as a gift?
First, think about the recipient of your gift. What is their personality like? What are their hobbies? What means the most to them? A mug allows its user to proudly make a statement to the world, presented through the mug’s design or what is printed on it. When you are giving a mug to someone as a gift, the best place to start is by basing your choice of cup on the recipient’s favorite things in life.
At Crown & Paw, we love to cater to pet-lovers everywhere. That’s why our high-quality mugs are highly personalizable and can be printed with the likeness of a pet in one of many costumes. If you are giving a gift to someone who loves their pet, one of our mugs is the perfect option! You can make the mug even more personal by choosing a costume for the recipient’s pet based on one of their favorite movies or TV shows!

To Wrap Or To Bag?
One big decision that every gift-giver has to make is between wrapping a gift and putting it in a gift bag. When it comes to a gift like a mug, which has a unique shape, wrapping is often the tougher choice between the two. With a little bit of tissue paper and maybe a bow, a gift bag can be the perfect carrier for a mug.
On the other hand, wrapping a gift has many perks. That old familiar feeling of unwrapping presents on Christmas morning comes to mind, and it’s a hard feeling to replicate. Wrapped gifts have a timelessly inviting feel, making them extra special to many people. While putting a mug in a bag may be the easier option, wrapping it with wrapping paper just might be even more meaningful.
Wrapping Your Mug: What You Need
To successfully gift-wrap a mug, you only need a few tools – tissue paper, regular paper, scissors, and a bow. The scissors will be used for cutting the wrapping paper down to the right size, and the standard paper will be crumpled up to serve as packing paper, stabilizing the mug and making it easier to wrap. Finally, a bow can serve as the cherry on top, making your gift look extra special. It also keeps the tissue paper securely wrapped around the mug.
Getting started
To start the wrapping process, ball up several sheets of paper, creating a ball large enough to fill the mug. Place this ball of paper in the mug to provide it with extra stability and reduce the risk of the mug getting damaged.
Once you have filled the mug with paper, it’s time to move on to wrapping your gift with tissue paper.
Wrapping Things Up
Next, set your mug on several sheets of tissue paper. Depending on the size of your mug, you may need to use your scissors to cut sheets of tissue paper down to size. Otherwise, the sheets may be too big to use.
Once the mug is set up on top of the tissue paper, grab the paper by the corners and pull it up towards the top of the mug. The sheets of paper should reach several inches above the top of the mug, allowing you to tie the corners together with a bow. Instead of sealing your gift with tape, as you would a typical wrapped present, you’ll be tying a bow around the tissue paper at the top, creating a securely fastened “teepee” shape over the top of the mug.
If you want to level up your presentation even more, you can add an additional layer of translucent cellophane to the tissue paper before tying it up. This layer of cellophane can make your gift sparkle, giving it an even nicer look. If you want to get extra creative, you can pair a sparkly, vibrantly-colored bow with a shiny layer of cellophane.
Tying The Knot
With your layers of tissue paper wrapped around the mug, your next step is to fasten a bow around the paper to secure it in place. The bow adds extra decorative flair, but it also serves the essential purpose of keeping the tissue paper from coming loose.
You can tie the bow at the top of the mug using a simple knot, similar to what you would use to tie your shoes. The knot should be tight enough to keep the tissue paper in place, but it does not need to be double-knotted or overly tightened. A too-tight knot can end up frustrating the recipient of the gift, which is the opposite of what you want!
Time To Give Your Mug!
Now that you’ve successfully gift-wrapped your mug, it’s time to give it to its lucky recipient! One of the best ways to make your gift even more meaningful is to give it with a heartfelt, handwritten note. If you are giving a pet-themed mug from Crown & Paw to someone, your note is primed and ready to be filled with pet-themed puns, which are sure to make the mug’s recipient smile.
Giving a mug to someone may seem like a simple gesture, but it can make a big difference in the life of someone you love. Sometimes, the simplest gifts are the most meaningful presents you can give. This is especially true when it is clear that your gift came from your heart and that you care deeply about the person you are giving it to. It doesn’t take much to show someone that you love them – sometimes, all you need is a mug!
